Holy smokes, literally! August was a little quieter and a whole lot hazier than normal in Reno! While the wildfires raged on, we prioritized the well being of our drivers and clients so you may not have seen us out and about much. In today's August event round up, we are going to share what Pineapple Pedicabs is doing to impact climate change. And now that September is here, we have tons of upcoming events to put on your calendar.
🌎 Our Commitment to the Team and the Environment 🌎
We love to have fun and get silly, but at Pineapple Pedicabs we are serious about taking care of our pedicab drivers and the environment. That's why anytime the air-quality index (AQI) is over 150, we do not allow our team members to drive pedicabs. It is dangerous to their health and to that of the customers they carry.
We believe there is a path to a better future. And that's why we do everything we can to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible. The wildfires that continue to burn and make our air quality unsafe are a stark reminder of how the climate change crisis continues to evolve and how imperative it is that we ALL do our part.
“Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, it's unlikely you will step up and take responsibility for making it so. If you assume that there is no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities to change things, then there is a possibility that you can contribute to making a better world.” Noam Chomsky
At Pineapple Pedicabs, we actively contribute to reversing climate change.
Our fleet of pedicabs were bought used and have been fully restored
Whenever possible, we restore our pedicabs with used and repurposed parts
We use reusable zip ties and rechargeable batteries
We recycle or repurpose as much as we possibly can, such as using old bike parts to create art and using old bike tubes as bungee cords
Did I mention we get unlimited miles per gallon? NO GAS!
We use digital advertising so we don't have waste products everytime we get new clients!
We work hard to be as eco-friendly as possible so we can do our small part to change the climate crisis. How can you do your part? You might think that a small operation or a single person can't make a real difference. But here's the rub! Together, a bunch of us little guys can make a really BIG difference! What's that they say about a mosquito?
“If you think you are too small to make a difference, you haven't spent the night with a mosquito.”
Here are small changes that anyone can make to make a big difference.
Refuse to us disposable water bottles. Reusable water bottles are better for you and the environment. Water tastes better when it's not polluted with micro plastics from a disposable plastic water bottle and reusable bottles are cheaper in the long run, especially when you buy them at a thrift store. Which reminds me...
Start buying clothing from thrift stores! This is trendy and fun, for good reason. Check out these stats from the world's largest online thrift store, ThredUp.
73% of all apparel is either incinerated or sent to a landfill.
Buying a single used clothing item reduces its footprint by 82%
Be conscious of your energy consumption
Use LED light bulbs
Turn off lights when you leave a room
Use less water by turning it off when it doesn't need to be on
For goodness sake, embrace the desert landscape and don't try to grow a lush green lawn in Reno
I could go on and on and on but lastly and my absolute favorite... TAKE A BIKE! RIDE A BIKE! TAKE A PEDICAB! Bikes are the original zero-emission vehicle.
👋 Farewell to Food Truck Fridays 👋

🚴 Meet our driver: Jonathan! 🚴
We are going to add a new part to our blog and get you introduced to all of our drivers, one by one! We kick things off with Jonathan, one of our longest-running drivers at Pineapple Pedicabs. He first drove a pedicab when he was in college and never lost the love. He is a beer brewery enthusiast (or nerd as we lovingly refer to him as) and is the PERFECT one to book when you want to take a brewery tour with a real expert. Call today to book your brewery tour with Jonathan! We promise you won't be disappointed!
Jonathan, in his own words: Started riding a pedicab in college as a way to make some extra money, and as a way to get more miles on the bike for triathlon training. I was so excited to find PineapplePedicabs here in Reno - when I heard about them, I knew I had to get back into it. I love being out and around Reno, meeting people, and hearing their stories. There are so many interesting people doing amazing things in this town - can’t wait to hear your story!
